This session will present funding opportunities in the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences (CURE) Program that support research training and education experiences for individuals who are from groups underrepresented in the biomedical workforce. The CURE Program promotes academic and career progress in cancer research for high school, undergraduate and graduate students, Baccalaureate or Master’s degree holders, postdoctoral fellows and investigators. More than 3,000 underrepresented scholars have been supported by the CURE Program, whose funding mechanisms include Diversity and Re-entry Supplements, National Research Service Awards (NRSA), F31; Career Development Awards, K; Exploratory Grant Award, R21; and newly issued Cancer Research Education Grants, R25. NCI Program Officers will present requirements and critical elements of successful applications as well as common errors and pitfalls to avoid. Speakers will also address the intricacies of developing strong proposal applications and explore strategies for successfully navigating obstacles on the journey to a successful cancer research career.
