Preservation of Biospecimens for Pediatric Biomarker Research – Webinar
Thursday, October 20, 2016 @ 12:00 pm EDT — Thursday, October 20, 2016 @ 01:30 pm EDT

High quality biospecimens are essential for developing new pediatric therapies. Cryopreservation involves more than storing samples in a cold black box. Understanding the preservation process has an important influence on the ultimate outcome of the research. This lecture will describe those scientific principles and practical measures needed to ensure the quality and consistency of biospecimens used in biomedical research. The lecture will also describe unique issues associated with preservation of biospecimens from pediatric patients.

Following the presentation, Marianne K. Henderson will comment on the issues raised in the lecture. Ms. Henderson is the Senior Advisor for Division Resources for the National Cancer Institute’s Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics. She is a founding member of the NCI Bio specimen Coordinating Committee and participated in the development and revision of the first and second editions of NCI’s Best Practices for Bio specimen Resources.
