NCI’s Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology (CBIIT) manages the information technology (IT) infrastructure for the entire institute.  The NCI IT infrastructure is the collection of hardware, hardware maintenance contracts, software, network, labor, structures, and IT policy required to support the scientific and administrative activities of the NCI.  Many of the activities supported by the IT infrastructure are critical parts of NCI’s role in advancing progress in preventing and treating cancers of all kinds.  The IT support that CBIIT provides enhances the work environment for the scientists, administrators, and program managers who carry out NCI’s mission.

For the past five years, CBIIT has managed many of the same IT infrastructure elements for four external institutes, including the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA); the others are the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), National Center for Complementary & Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), and Fogarty International Center (FIC).  Based on a recent decision by NCI to focus their attention on the NCI infrastructure, a project called CBIIT Dedicated Support Transition was initiated to support the transition of all hosted services to other service providers.
