Katherine "Kate" Elfer is a postdoctoral fellow in the joint NCI/FDA Interagency Oncology Task Force (IOTF)- Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program. Her research interests are in digital pathology; optical imaging systems; and the design, evaluation, and validation of new diagnostic technologies for cancer prevention. Dr. Elfer received her B.S. in Nanoystems Engineering from Louisiana Tech University and furthered her investigation of microscopy and imaging systems with her doctoral studies in biomedical and optical engineering. She received her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University in 2018 for her work in developing and validating a new fluorescence workflow that mimics the appearance of common histological stains for pathological evaluation. Dr. Elfer joined the NCI Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program in 2019, through which she earned her M.P.H from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. In 2020. Dr. Elfer joined the Center for Devices and Radiological health as a IOTF fellow in October 2020 and began work with the High Throughput Truthing Project under the mentorship of Dr. Brandon Gallas (https://ncihub.org/groups/eedapstudies).
