    Sara Hargrave is a Program Director in the Diversity Training Branch of the NCI’s CRCHD since 2018. In this role, Dr. Hargrave contributes to the grants management of the NCI Research Supplements to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research and the NCI Supplements to promote Reentry into Biomedical and Behavioral Research Careers.

    Prior to joining NCI, Dr. Hargrave was a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research in the NIH Office of the Director. In this role, she analyzed and evaluated the NIH Behavioral and Social Sciences portfolio and the publication records of scientists in those fields. In addition, Dr. Hargrave contributed to the programmatic mission of the office and served as Acting Legislative Contact.

    Dr. Hargrave received her M.S. and Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, in the Ingestive Behavior Research Center. There, she studied the impact of diet on affective and cognitive parameters, as well as neuroendocrine, neuroinflammatory, and neurovascular gene expression. Dr. Hargrave then did a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience at American University in Washington, D.C., where she studied the impact of diet and drugs of abuse on cognition and neurovascular permeability.
