  • Biography
    Mr. Kevin Mitchell has considerable experience and formal education in computer science and information technology. Throughout his career Mr. Mitchell has demonstrated successful application of techniques in Software life cycle management, Natural Language Processing, Agents and Distributed Computing, Image Processing. Graphic User Interfaces, Database and Knowledgebase Design, Artificial Intelligence and Algorithmic Analysis. Mr. Mitchell’s recent research work has focused on classifying and extracting information from free-text clinical notes. This work employs various theoretical techniques from the field of Natural Language Processing. This research is carried out under the auspices of the Cancer Text Information Extraction System, caTIES, and the Shared Pathology Information Network, SPIN. Other notable projects that Mr. Mitchell has participated in include the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency’s Advanced Logistics Program (ALP). As part of ALP, Mr. Mitchell acted as subcontractor project manager and chief component architect for a team of five software engineers with the goal to achieve distributed planning, scheduling, and execution monitoring of military logistics operations using an agent-based architecture. In addition, Mr. Mitchell was an integral player in systems that used Image Processing to detect objects in radar and sonar images while employed at the Westinghouse Research and Development Center. He has worked effectively on systems that performed electromagnetic analysis, plasma physics modeling and printed circuit board design.
