Topic: Containers on HPC – the view from Biowulf
Presenter: Dr.David Godlove, Computational Biologist, NIH HPC
Abstract:
Container technology has changed the way that code is developed, deployed, and maintained. New container platforms such as Singularity have brought these advances to the world of High-Performance Computing (HPC). The NIH HPC is at the forefront of this technological shift. Biowulf staff were early adopters, developers, and proponents of containers within HPC. This talk will review Linux containers and discuss the unique obstacles encountered when using containers within an HPC environment. The talk will detail the ways in which the HPC community is leveraging containers to foster portable and reproducible workflows and discuss ongoing challenges and future directions.
