Center for International Blood & Marrow Transplant Research

The Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research® (CIBMTR) operates the Stem Cell Therapeutic Outcomes Database (SCTOD) component of the C.W. Bill Young Cell Transplantation Program (Program). The Medical College of Wisconsin was awarded the SCTOD contract; the CIBMTR is a center within the college.

The CIBMTR was created in 2004 as a partnership between the International Bone Marrow Transplant Registry/Autologous Blood and Marrow Transplant Registry of the Medical College of Wisconsin and the research arm of the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP). These organizations have more than 30 years of experience in collecting, managing, and analyzing data about bone marrow and umbilical cord blood transplantation.

Encouraging Research

The CIBMTR contributes to scientific literature and encourages transplant experts to use CIBMTR data for their research. The CIBMTR has worked closely with federal agencies and global experts in various fields, including hematology, oncology, transplantation, histocompatibility, biostatistics, psychology, and health policy.

Managing Data

The CIBMTR continues to develop and maintain an electronic information system, which was begun by its predecessors. This system collects and manages data about bone marrow and cord blood transplants and provides this information to interested individuals, organizations, and regulatory agencies. The CIBMTR has expertise in histocompatibility and bioinformatics. It is also experienced in creating and managing research sample repositories.

CIBMTR’s technical experience, history of working closely with experts from a broad range of fields, and strong relationships with patient groups will continue to help meet the Program’s goals for the Stem Cell Therapeutic Outcomes Database.
