About the Group

Public Description

In addition to Helicobacter pylori, other bacterial species are becoming recognized as contributors to carcinogenesis, tumor growth, and possibly protection against carcinogenesis. The mechanisms used by bacteria to influence cancer merit further investigation. Bacteria may contribute directly by causing inflammation or genotoxicity or they may contribute indirectly by modulating the immune response or cellular metabolism. An integrative approach is needed to better understand the roles of bacteria in cancer.
